Quasars occur when immense amounts of matter fall into a supermassive black hole, spiraling around it in the form of a disk before entering. This “accretion disk” is subjected to extreme gravitational and frictional forces, causing the gas and dust to heat up to millions of degrees and become luminous, blasting out dazzling jets of material into the universe (NASA).

The Overview Effect refers to a cognitive shift in awareness reported by astronauts after viewing Earth from space. This phenomenon is often described as a transcendent experience. Our song, titled “Overview,” is meant to be an auditory expression of that experience: the sensation of floating in space while witnessing the Earth’s beauty and fragility.
Author Frank White coined the term the overview effect in a book of the same name, published in 1987 - where he uses interviews with and writings by numerous astronauts and cosmonauts.
While The Overview Effect may not be something that can be fully captured in words, it represents a profound physical and emotional experience. Most of us will never travel to space and witness Earth in orbit, but we can still attempt to tap into that sense of awe and connection. We invite you to listen to our song “Overview”—a sonic journey intended to accompany that sense of wonder and perspective.
As with most of the music we release at Normal Mode Enterprise, our inspiration comes from space and the cosmos. The James Webb Telescope (JWTS) connects us to the origins of the Universe. It studies every phase in the history of our Universe, ranging from the first luminous glows after the Big Bang, to the formation of solar systems capable of supporting life on planets like Earth, to the evolution of our own Solar System. The images it has captured so far are nothing less than breathtaking.. We hope you listen to this song while viewing some of those amazing JWTS images.
